Ventilator Ambulance From Apollo Hospital, Gwalior to Indraprastha Apollo, Jasola, Delhi

apollo

A 50-year-old male patient with a known history of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) required interstate medical transportation for continuation of specialized care. The patient was transferred via a fully equipped Advanced Life Support (ALS) road ambulance from Apollo Hospital in Gwalior to Indraprastha Apollo, Jasola, Delhi.

He was tracheostomized and dependent on invasive mechanical ventilation, necessitating continuous ventilatory support throughout the journey. Given his critical condition and multiple comorbidities, the transport was carried out under the supervision of a highly skilled critical care team, which included an experienced intensivist, a critical care nurse, and a respiratory therapist.

The ambulance was equipped with all necessary life-support systems, including a portable transport ventilator, multiparameter cardiac monitor, automated external defibrillator (AED), infusion pumps, suction apparatus, emergency medication kit, and backup oxygen supply. The patient’s vital parameters—such as heart rate, oxygen saturation (SpO₂), blood pressure, end-tidal CO₂ (EtCO₂), and ventilator settings—were continuously monitored to ensure stability.

Due to his CKD status, strict attention was paid to fluid management and urinary output, with readiness to respond to any renal or metabolic complications. Throughout the transfer, the patient remained hemodynamically stable, and no untoward events were observed.

The entire transport operation was conducted with real-time coordination between the referring and receiving hospitals, ensuring seamless continuity of care. The patient was successfully admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Medanta Hospital in a stable condition.

This case highlights the proficiency and preparedness of our medical transport team in managing high-risk, ventilator-dependent patients requiring long-distance interfacility transfers while maintaining the highest standards of critical care during transit.
