Successful Air Ambulance Transfer of a Right Femur Fracture Patient from Chandigarh to Nagpur

Chandigarh to Nagpur Image 2026-06-20 at 5.59.14 PM

A 55-year-old male tourist sustained a severe fracture of the right femur while trekking in Ladakh. Following the injury, he was initially evacuated to Chandigarh by an Army helicopter. Subsequently, Lifesavers Air Ambulance Services arranged his transfer from Chandigarh to Nagpur for further medical treatment.

Before the air transfer, our medical team carefully assessed the patient’s condition. A splint was securely applied to stabilize the fractured thigh, and appropriate pain management was provided to ensure comfort during the journey. The patient was then safely boarded onto the aircraft under continuous medical supervision.

A crucial consideration during air transportation of patients with long-bone fractures is proper immobilization. The affected limb must be securely stabilized to minimize movement, as air turbulence can increase pain and elevate the risk of complications such as fat embolism, a potentially life-threatening condition. Therefore, special attention was given to maintaining adequate immobilization throughout the flight.

The patient remained stable during the transfer, with continuous monitoring by the onboard medical team. The air ambulance mission was completed successfully, and the patient was safely transferred to Nagpur without any complications.
