Safe Rail Ambulance Transfer of 73-Year-Old Female Patient with Lumbar Spine Condition from Mumbai to Indore
A 73-year-old female experienced a sudden onset of weakness in both lower limbs, rendering her unable to walk. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Mumbai, where an MRI scan was performed. The imaging revealed significant lumbar spine degeneration, likely age-related. A Foley’s catheter was inserted, and symptomatic treatment was initiated.
As the patient required prolonged hospitalization for recovery, her family requested transfer closer to home in Indore. Accordingly, a rail ambulance service was arranged for a complete bed-to-bed transfer, as the patient was non-ambulatory.
Special care was taken during transportation, particularly regarding urinary and bowel management, due to the shared nature of the train coach. The journey lasted approximately 12–13 hours.
Throughout the transfer, the medical team provided continuous monitoring and managed the patient’s back pain and overall comfort. The journey remained stable and uneventful, and the patient was safely shifted to her home in Indore.
