Intercity transfer of oxygen-dependent patients requires structured monitoring and clinical supervision to ensure safety over long distances. Life Savers Ambulance Services coordinated a medically supervised rail ambulance transfer with semi ICU backup from Raipur to Hyderabad.

Case Overview

A 56-year-old male patient was shifted from Ramakrishna Hospital, Raipur to Tata AIG Hospital, Hyderabad using a Train Ambulance Service arranged by Life Savers Ambulance Services. The transfer was executed as a bed-to-bed rail ambulance transport, ensuring continuity of care throughout the journey.

Patient Condition

At the time of transfer, the patient:

  • Required continuous oxygen support at 2 L/min
  • Was clinically stable but oxygen-dependent
  • Needed ongoing observation due to underlying medical condition
  • Required semi ICU-level monitoring during long-distance travel

Although not ventilator-dependent, the patient required medical supervision to prevent hypoxia or sudden clinical deterioration during transit.

Transport Decision

A Rail Ambulance Service in India was selected because:

  • It provides a smoother and more stable environment compared to prolonged road transport
  • Continuous oxygen therapy can be maintained reliably
  • Semi ICU monitoring can be sustained over extended distances

It allows safe handling without the physiological stress of air travelLife Savers ensured complete coordination, including ground ambulance support at both departure and arrival points.

Medical Setup Onboard

The Semi ICU Train Ambulance was prepared with:

  • Continuous oxygen supply with adequate backup
  • Multi-parameter monitoring for heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation
  • Emergency medications and resuscitation equipment
  • Positioning support for patient comfort during the long journey

A trained medical escort from Life Savers remained responsible for continuous clinical supervision.

Care During Transit

During the Raipur to Hyderabad journey:

  • Oxygen saturation was maintained on 2 L/min
  • Vital parameters were monitored at regular intervals
  • The patient remained hemodynamically stable
  • No respiratory distress or acute events were noted

The stable rail environment allowed uninterrupted observation and safe transport.

Arrival and Handover

On reaching Hyderabad, a pre-coordinated ground ambulance completed the final leg of the transfer to Tata AIG Hospital. A structured clinical handover was provided to the receiving medical team, detailing oxygen requirements and in-transit observations.

Clinical Perspective

Patients requiring low-flow oxygen and semi ICU monitoring benefit from structured ICU Train Ambulance transportover long distances. Continuous oxygen support, vital monitoring, and trained supervision significantly reduce the risks associated with intercity transfers. Life Savers Ambulance Services continues to provide clinically appropriate and patient-focused rail ambulance solutions across India, ensuring safe, dignified, and monitored long-distance transport.
