Long-Distance Neonatal Transport from Varanasi to Delhi

A 22-day-old preterm neonate (birth weight: 1800g), diagnosed with a critical congenital heart disease, was on mechanical ventilation (high settings, FiO₂ 100%) since birth, with oxygen saturation fluctuating between 70–80%.
The primary challenge of this case was to maintain adequate oxygenation, thermal stability, hemodynamic parameters, and IV hydration throughout the journey. Given the fragility of the patient and the complexity of the condition, a meticulous pre-transport assessment was carried out by our specialized neonatal transport team.
The baby was transported over 12 hours by road from Varanasi to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi. To ensure uninterrupted critical care, we arranged for standby ambulances and medical teams in major cities en route for contingency support.
Despite the long and demanding journey, the transportation was completed successfully, ensuring the baby’s safety and clinical stability throughout.
Kudos to our NICU transport team for their dedication, planning, and execution in one of the most challenging neonatal transfers.
