Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre is one of India’s most trusted cancer hospitals, known for advanced oncology care, radiation therapy, surgical oncology, and bone marrow transplant services. Patients travel to and from the hospital not only from Delhi NCR, but from across India for specialised cancer treatment and follow-ups.

Cancer patients often need transport that is not rushed, not rough, and not uncertain. Whether it is an emergency admission, a scheduled chemotherapy cycle, a post-surgery transfer, or a return journey closer to home, the transfer must be medically supervised and calm.

Lifesavers Ambulance Services provides dedicated ambulance support to and from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital, with ICU road ambulances, rail ambulance coordination through Indian Railways and IRCTC processes, and air ambulance or commercial airline medical support for long-distance and international movement.

ICU Road Ambulance To / From Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital

Cancer patients can be weak, oxygen-dependent, immunocompromised, or recovering from procedures. Lifesavers provides ICU road ambulances that support safe transfers within Delhi NCR, including home pickups, hospital discharges, and inter-hospital referrals.

Our ICU road ambulance transfers are commonly used for:

  • Admission transfers to Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital
  • Discharge transfers from the hospital with monitoring
  • Inter-hospital movement for scans, procedures, or referrals
  • Transfers between Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad

Train / Rail Ambulance Services To / From Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital

For long-distance transfers, Lifesavers provides rail ambulance coordination using Indian Railways. A First AC or Second AC coach is medically prepared as a portable care unit, allowing stable oncology patients to travel comfortably over long routes with continuous monitoring and oxygen support as required.

Rail transfers are commonly chosen for planned treatment cycles, follow-up visits, palliative care movement, and patients who cannot tolerate long road journeys.

Common Rail Routes

Delhi to Patna
Delhi to Kolkata
Delhi to Mumbai
Delhi to Chennai
Delhi to Hyderabad
Delhi to Bangalore
Delhi to Guwahati

Air Ambulance and Commercial Airline Medical Support To / From the Hospital

When time matters or the distance is large, Lifesavers arranges air transfers to and from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital.

Charter air ambulances are used for critical cases requiring ICU-level care during flight. For stable patients, Lifesavers also arranges commercial airline travel with stretcher or wheelchair support, airline clearances, medical escort, and oxygen arrangements if required.

Common Air Routes

Domestic: Delhi to Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune
International: Delhi to Dubai, Singapore, London, Toronto, New York, Bangkok

Common Cancer Cases We Transfer To / From Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital

Lifesavers frequently manages transfers for:

  • Chemotherapy and radiotherapy patients
  • Post-cancer surgery recovery cases requiring monitoring
  • Bone marrow transplant referrals and follow-ups
  • Weak, bed-bound, or oxygen-dependent patients
  • Palliative and supportive care transfers closer to home
  • Wheelchair and stretcher cases on commercial flights

Every oncology transfer is planned to reduce fatigue, pain, and uncertainty for the patient.

Detailed Step-by-Step Transfer Process

Step 1 Call and Medical Details

The family or hospital calls our 24×7 line. We record the diagnosis, current treatment stage, vitals if available, pain or weakness levels, mobility status, and whether oxygen or monitoring is needed. We also confirm whether the transfer is to Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital or from the hospital to another destination.

Step 2 Clinical Review and Mode Selection

A medical coordinator reviews the case and recommends the safest mode: ICU road ambulance for local transfers, rail ambulance for long-distance stable transfers, or air or commercial airline support when speed is essential. This step ensures we do not over or under-provision care.

Step 3 Team Assignment

Based on the patient’s condition, we assign the correct team such as an ICU doctor or nurse, paramedic, and support staff. For long-distance routes we also assign coordination staff for station or airport handling.

Step 4 Equipment Planning and Ambulance Preparation

We prepare the ambulance based on what the patient actually needs, such as oxygen support, suction, infusion support, monitoring, and emergency medications. For rail transfers we plan station movement and coach setup. For air transfers we plan airline clearances and boarding support.

Step 5 Bedside Pickup and Safe Patient Packaging

Our team reaches the pickup point and stabilises the patient before movement. The patient is positioned comfortably, lines are secured, oxygen is started if required, and the patient is shifted gently onto the stretcher to avoid discomfort. Family instructions and documents are checked at this stage.

Step 6 Continuous Monitoring During Transit

During the journey, the patient is monitored continuously for comfort and medical stability. Oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure, and symptoms like breathlessness or pain are tracked. Medications are administered as per requirement, and the family is updated during long transfers.

Step 7 Arrival and Hospital Handover

On reaching Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital or the receiving facility, our team transfers the patient safely and provides a structured handover with key observations and what support was provided during transit.

Step 8 Post-Transfer Support

If the family needs return transfer planning, documentation support, or another leg of movement, our team remains available to coordinate the next steps.

Why Families Choose Lifesavers

Families choose Lifesavers because oncology transport requires medical judgement and patience, not just fast driving. We focus on comfort, careful handling, clear communication, and continuity of care during transfers to and from the hospital.

Our first and only experience of an Ambulatory service was with Dr.Pradeep Gupta's "Life Savers". Patient was in ICU and on non-invasive Ventilator (NIV) for 5 days in Delhi, post which we engaged services of Life Savers - Train Ambulatory services, to move this elderly female patient (aged 85 years) from ICU in Delhi to ICU in Mumbai (door to door), for continuity of treatment. Intensivist Dr.Deepshikhar Gupta and paramedic Ashwini accompanied us. Dr.Deepshikhar infact came a day earlier to see the patient first hand and interact with the ICU team in Delhi. He is a confident and experienced intensivist. Our Point to Point experience of 21 hours (road & rail) with Life Savers was tension free and relaxed. We thank them for the professional service rendered by them.

On 5th February, we arranged an air ambulance transfer from Bhubaneshwar to Delhi, and the service was truly outstanding from start to finish. Right from the first call, the team was compassionate, responsive, and extremely professional. They guided us through the entire process clearly, ensuring all documentation and medical requirements were handled smoothly. The medical crew on board was exceptional — highly skilled, attentive, and caring throughout the flight. Their constant monitoring and quick response brought immense peace of mind during a stressful time. The aircraft was fully equipped with ICU-level support, and every safety protocol was followed meticulously. What impressed us most was the bed-to-bed coordination — the team made sure the transition from the hospital in Bhubaneswar to the receiving facility in Delhi was seamless. Communication was prompt and transparent at every step, and we always knew what was happening. We are extremely grateful for the care and professionalism shown by the entire crew. Highly recommended for anyone needing reliable, compassionate, and efficient air ambulance services.
